BANGALORE: Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah was in an agitating mood on Wednesday as the government expressed difficulty in tabling the Bill pertaining to the Jamma and Bane land dispute in Kodagu district in the ongoing session.“Why should I be in government when there is no respect for our sentiments. I will walk out,” Bopaiah threatened protesting the government’s decision. The incident occurred when Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, during Zero Hour, said that the Bill would be tabled only in the next session due to some technical difficulties.Enraged at the reply, BJP MLA Appachchu Ranjan threatened to go on dharna if the Bill was not tabled in this session. The Speaker and several members supported him, thus forcing the CM to reconsider his decision. The Bill would now be tabled on Friday. The state government has announced an additional incentive of `2,500 per quintal of paddy over and above the minimum support price (MSP) fixed by the Centre. The Centre had already announced a MSP of `1,080 and `1,110 per quintal of FAQ and A Grade paddy respectively. With the annoncement, farmers would now get `1,330 for FAQ and `1,360 for A grade paddy.Earlier, during the Zero Hour, Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti announced the government’s decision to grant `200 incentive per quintal of paddy. However, the decision was modified by the CM as several members demanded a hike.As many as seven people, including four women belonging to the Madiga Dandora Samithi, protested from the Assembly gallery demanding internal reservation to their community. As the house was seriously debating over the Karnataka Forest (Amendment) Bill, these people suddenly started shouting slogans against the government and threw handbills into the house. However, they were quickly taken out by the Marshalls and handed over to the custody of the Vidhan Soudha police. Later, informing about the incident to the House, the Speaker warned the activists not to repeat such an act in future and ordered the police to release them after the day’s proceedings are over. He also suggested the authorities to be careful while issuing passes to people.
