JMM president Shibu Soren and new Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday became the first father and son to have ruled the state.
While the senior Soren had three short terms at the helm of affairs between 2005 and 2010, Hemant was administered the oath of office by Governor Syed Ahmed on Saturday morning.
However, across the country there have been many such instances.
Most recently, Akhilesh Yadav of Uttar Pradesh donned the mantle following the footsteps of his father Mulayam Singh Yadav while Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah followed his father Farooq Abdullah.
The others are Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Biju Patnaik, Haryana's Devi Lal and Om Prakash Chautala, Maharashtra's Shankarrao Chavan and Ashok Chavan.
