CHENNAI: Science Olympiad Foundation, Asia’s largest conductor of Olympiad exams and India’s leading registered nonprofit educational organisation, started its Olympiad 2011 in Chennai. The award ceremony was inaugurated by Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan in Mylapore by Justice Prabha Sridevan of Madras High Court accompanied by Dr R Ashokamani, former head of physics Anna University and Dr C Rajendran, HOD of dept of management studies, IIT Madras The prizes are up to `1 lakh for students of Classes 7 to 12, and the top three winners of Classes 1 to 6 will win a laptop computer. SOF has announced their scholarship programme for a girl child on the special occasion and will organise state level award functions across India. SOF is covering 950 cities where over 14,000 schools enroll for their Olympiad exams, enabling millions of students to appear for the Olympiads annually.“Looking at the enthusiastic response from schools, students and parents, we are organising our state level Olympiad 2011-12 awards in addition to the Annual National Awards Function in Chennai,” said Mahabir Singh, Executive Director, SOF India “Through such activities, we want to encourage and motivate participants across the country.”SOF will provide financial assistance to economically weak girls to enable them to continue their school education. Seventy-five needy girls will be provided with a scholarship amounting to `18,000 for their education for a full year. Nominations for these scholarships will be received from schools and 75 most deserving children selected for grant of scholarship.Established in 1998 by leading academicians, scientists and media personalities, the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has been striving to promote scientific attitude through innovative activities and use of IT in learning process that involve students across the globe.
