New Delhi: The Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru is in the eye of a storm as a senior IPS officer claimed that jail officials were bribed to provide a lavish lifestyle to AIADMK leader VK Sasikala. DIG Roopa claimed that jail authorities, including DGP of prisons, were paid bribes worth Rs 2 crores and were getting the leaders facilities, including a special kitchen counter to cook food for her.

If allegations are to be believed the Parappana Agrahara central prison is a pretty posh place to be. Here’s what you need to know about the prison:
- It is Karnataka’s largest and the most overcrowded jail
- The prison is spread over 40 acres and has more than 4,400 inmates despite its capacity being 2,200
- The prison was established in 1997 and is located in the south east part of Bengaluru
- Male prisoners are dressed in white coarse cotton shirts and pyjamas, while women wear white sarees.
- Indian Mujahideen commander Yasin Bhatkal is set to be brought to the jail in connection with the Chinnaswamystadium blast.
- Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa, ex-cabinet minister G Janardhana Reddy, minister Krishnaiah Shetty were all once prisoners in the jail.
- VK Sasikala has previously spent time in the jail along with her nephew VN Sudhakaran and sister-in-law Ilavarasi. The trio spent 21 days in the prison in 2014.
