Mason: Sania Mirza and her Polish partner Marta Domachowska entered the semi-finals of the US$ 175,000 Cincinnati Open after defeating Uzbekistan's Varavara Lepchenko and Men Yuan of China in a tough three-setter.
The third seeded Indo-Polish combination prevailed after a hard fought 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3) encounter which lasted nearly three hours.
This has been a hectic week for the Hyderabadi girl, seeded ninth in singles at the event, who will take on top seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in her singles quarter-final on Friday.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams, returning to the circuit after a long layoff, was impressive as she disposed off fellow American Bethanie Mattek 6-3 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals.
Serbian Jelena Jankovic, Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli and Russian Vera Zvonareva also made it to the last eight in singles.
