Vandiperiyar (Kerala): Over 100 people died and more than 60 are reported to be injured in a stampede triggered near Sabrimala shrine (Kerala) by jeep ramming into the devotees.
The stampede occurred around 8 PM on Friday when the pilgrims were returning after watching the celestial Makara Jyothi light, the most important event of the pilgrimage, from a hillock some 30 km from the Sabarimala temple, when a jeep lost control and rammed into the devotees. This created panic, leading to the stampede.

Karnataka: Suresh (Mysore), Deepesh N S (age 26, from Kallari), Manjunadhu (26-Karvadi), Budhi Ghokkas (30), Seetham Ghokkas (26), Puneshathu Ghosh (45), Babu (Mysore), Sivalinga Iyer (Murukkodu Medu), Malleswar (26-Kurkkatty) Bassu Ghokhar, Manjunath (21) Vishnu Murthi (25) and Sabu Rao.
Andhra Pradesh: Arun Methak (20), Raju (Oncole) Sreenu (26-Malgunda) S Aravind (Manjeswaram) Ram Babu Reddy, Sangam (30-Ramakkot).
Tamil Nadu: Ambarassu (Dharmapuram), Murukeshan (50-Udhagamandalam), Rajaratham (30-Pollachi), Anju Kumar (34-Pollachi), Krishnan (40-Dharmapuram), Raman (25-Kudulur), Raj Kumar (30-Melur), Selraj (40-Thirunalveli), Ramachandra (Madhurai), Selvaraj (38-Thirunelveli), Arun (20-Madurai), Ayyappan (30-Dharmapuri), Madhu (Chennai), Govindraj (Mettupalayam), Prasanth (44-Salem), Krishna Prasanthan (34-Chennai), Subramanian (32-Kanjeepuram) and Sangam (35-Thuthukudi).
