The Cabinet has decided to implement the Right to Services Act in the state within three months, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday.
The state is duty bound to implement it within six months but the government is keen to make it a reality within three months itself, he told reporters. ‘’Two committees have been formed for the purpose,’’ he said.
Chandy said that a Cabinet sub-committee comprising the Ministers of Finance, Industries, Electricity and Revenue had been formed to streamline the implementation of the Act.
Another committee headed by the Chief Secretary will hold discussions with various department heads so as to decide on the services of each department which had to be incorporated under the purview of the Act. The committee will finalise such services and present it to the ministerial sub-committee within one month, he said.
Chandy added that the secretarial committee will also decide on the extent of fine to be imposed upon officials concerned in the event of not providing the service to the public within the stipulated period in the Act.
The Cabinet has also decided to grant grace marks for student police cadets at par with NCC cadets.
Those with A+ grade in the SSLC grade will be entitled for 10 per cent grace marks, whereas with A and B grades will be awarded 7 per cent and 5 per cent grace marks respectively, the Chief Minister said.
