BANGALORE: The unruly behaviour of a section of advocates on Friday at the city civil court complex miffed the seniors in the profession, who said it should be contained to uphold the dignity of their profession. Many senior High Court lawyers were unhappy with the perception of lawyers that was created due to the incident.“We have worked hard for years to build a reputation of honest work. Our clients are now doubting us because of the revengeful acts of some juniors,” a senior HC lawyer told Express on condition of anonymity.Meanwhile, others from the same group believed they would never be able to win back the trust of the public.“It is very sad to see the reputation of the community shatter into pieces. Those stones that some juniors/fake lawyers threw were not targeted at the media or the cops - they were shattering the belief of the common man,” said a senior HC Lawyer. However, many juniors told Express this will not tarnish the image of lawyers.“The seniors knew the problems. They never tried to counsel us and address the issues,” said a junior lawyer refusing to divulge his name.LAWYERS TO BOYCOTT COURTS TODAYBANGALORE: The Karnataka Advocates Association with the support of the BAR council of India will be boycotting court on March 5.All the courts in the state including High Court and its benches and district courts will be shut protesting against the alleged high handedness of police and onesided coverage of the media on the Friday’s incidents at the premises of city civil court. The association demanded all cases against lawyers should be withdrawn and those who participated in the violent attack on Friday should be identified - regardless of their position, be it lawyers, cops or media personnel.“Everyone who was involved in any violent act should be punished. The BAR council of Karnataka and India is backing us on these demands,” said a senior official from the Karnataka Advocates Association.Further, the association has claimed that they do not have any enmity with the media and they want to brainstorm together to arrive at an amicable solution to the problem.“Media and law are two strong pillars of democracy,” he said.
