London: A new survey seems to have finally revealed the dirty secret of British bras - the average woman in Britain spends 2,700 pounds on her lingerie in her lifetime but only bothers to wash them six times a year.
According to the survey, the average woman wears her bra seven times over an eight-week period before washing it. White is the most popular colour, followed by red and then black, it found.
While the average woman owns 16 bras, British women own 2.6 billion bras in total with the market worth 39 billion pounds, the survey revealed.
The survey, carried out for Dr Beckmann, the firm behind stain removal product Lingerie Whitener, is based on a poll of over 2,000 women aged 20 to 65 found, leading British newspaper the Daily Express reported.
