Relatives of slain cops given jobs

PHULBANI: The brother and wife of the two slain cops, who had died in a landmine explosion, were appointed clerks in the District Police Office, Kandhamal, on March 24.Sujitrani Mohanty, wife of Sunasir Mohanty and Sunil Kumar Lenka, brother of Sangram Lenka, were appointed as per the rehabilitation policy of the State Government, said Kandhamal SP J N Pankaj, adding that a relative of another cop Umakanta Jani will get the appointment letter on finalisation of the legal heir.Besides, the families of the three slain cops were given Rs 10 lakh each towards insurance money, said the SP. This is in addition to the Rs 8 lakh provided to each family on the day of cremation, he added.Three policemen of the district had died and three others were injured in a landmine explosion near Padiapanga village under Kotagarh police limits on January 5. The six police personnel were on their way to the site of a blast that had taken place the previous day when the landmine exploded on Kotagarh-Srirampur road.Kandhamal policemen have also donated a day’s salary to the bereaved families.
