Union panchayat raj and tribal affairs minister V Kishore Chandra Deo has urged the state government to examine the alternative designs for construction of Polavaram project, which he has come to know, are available.
He said on Saturday, after collectors workshop on left-wing extremism here, that the project site should be selected in such a way that the submergence and loss to oustees was minimum.
The minister hoped that the bauxite mining leases would be cancelled in the Visakhapatnam agency area. Earlier, he wrote to the governor demanding cancellation of bauxite mining leases as outsiders intervention and exploitation of forest area was responsible for more adivasis taking to Left-wing extremism.
Later, the minister presented degrees to the fourth batch students of PG Diploma in Rural Development at the National Institute of Rural Development.
