With the state government re-nominating MP Kanumuri Bapiraju as the chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), a long-time aspirant for the position and Lok Sabha member from Guntur Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is said to be in a state of frustration.
The government reconstituted the board for a fresh two-year term Saturday night, appointing Bapiraju once again as the chairman.
Rao, who has been vying for the position from a very long time, could not stomach the news and is understood to be sharing his frustration with his confidants.
Even before Bapiraju was nominated last year, Rao had moved heaven and earth for the post.
He even met AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and made a supplication that he be considered.
But when the time of reckoning came, the party high command decided to go with Bapiraju, who also happened to be chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s choice.
Sambasiva Rao, after learning that he was once again ignored, said he would talk to the Congress president and explain to her the injustice meted out to him though he had remained a loyal party worker for decades.
“I am not quitting the Congress.
I will take a decision at an appropriate time.
First I will have to meet the party president and express my anguish,” he said.
Rao had already been approached by the YSR Congress in the past since YS Jagan Mohan Reddy needed a strong Kamma leader in the coas tal Andhra belt.
According to sources, Rao is weighing his options since he would also be welcomed into the Telugu Desam.
According to his adversaries in Guntur, he has a good “political understanding” with TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu
