THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though R Selvaraj, the UDF candidate for Neyyattinkara bypoll, has made an increase of only around Rs 20,000 in the asset than his previous affidavit which was filed 15 months ago, he made a major shift in the column for the name of God in the declaration.Selvaraj, who quit as CPM MLA, filed his nomination papers this time as a Congress candidate at an auspicious time on Friday after 12 noon at the Thiruvananthapuram Civil station.He was accompanied by Deputy Speaker N Sakthan. Health Minister V S Sivakumar, M M Hassan and Thampanoor Ravi, who was his rival candidate in the last election. Selvaraj filed four sets of nomination papers, seconded by M M Hassan and Thampanoor Ravi before the Returning Officer K Muraleedharan, who is also the Deputy Collector (Vigilance south zone).According to the affidavit, the former MLA declared that he possessed property and cash worth Rs 49,77,156. As per the affidavit, Selvaraj has Rs 14,000 cash and property worth over Rs 6,24,626, while his wife Mary Valsala owns property and a house of 950 square feet worth Rs 38,17,333. She has gold ornaments of 80 grams together with daughters. Selvaraj has a vehicle worth Rs 5,50,000 and an insurance policy worth Rs 50,000.Both husband and wife have not inherited any property.Meanwhile, BJP candidate O Rajagopal will file his nomination papers at 11 am on Wednesday before Assistant Returning Officer S Sanoob, who is also the Perumkadavila Block Development Officer.
