Prison staff demand shifting of rowdy

BANGALORE: Around 200 employees of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison staged a protest demanding to shift notorious rowdy Korangu alias Korangu Krishna to another jail after he allegedly tried to assault a Superintendent and threatened him of dire consequences.According to prison sources, the staff on the night shift, on Monday, were on a routine check and they went to room number four of the fifth barrack, where Korangu is being kept.When the staff started searching his room, Korangu reportedly hurled filthy abuses at Superintendent Krishna Kumar and tried to attack him along with 40 associates who were in the same barrack.However, the other prison staff came to their colleague’s rescue and stopped Korangu.Further, he allegedly threatened the Superintendent that he would see him murdered within 24 hours.“Raged by this, the staff approached the Chief Superintendent Lakshminarayana demanding to shift Korangu to another jail, for which the former declined and tried to pacify the staff.Upset over his attitude, the staff sounded emergency siren. Within a few minutes, over 200 staff of the prison who were in the quarters at that time rushed to the prison. They all started protesting at the main gate demanding immediate shifting of Korangu,” sources explained. When contacted, the Chief Superintendent, he admitted the incident and said that such incidents were a common affair in the prison. The protest was on till late night.
