Mumbai: Praveen Mahajan, accused of killing his elder brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, has sacked his lawyer for making a bail plea in Bombay High Court without his consent.
Sources close to Mahajan said in Mumbai that lawyer Nandkumar Rajurkar who appeared for Mahajan in proceedings so far had been making statements without Praveen's consent.
"Even the bail application made in Bombay High Court recently was not done with the consent of Praveen," his brother in-law Prasad Pulliwar said.
Praveen has informed the court that he did not want Rajurkar as his lawyer any more and whatever Rajurkar did so far was without his consent, his family sources said.
Praveen's family members said that they were not consulted or taken into confidence by Rajurkar, who they allege, has not met Praveen ever since he took his case.
"We will decide our new legal aide in the coming days," Pulliwar said.
Meanwhile, Rajurkar said that he has decided to withdraw from the case as he felt that there was danger to his life and property after taking up the case and also since Praveen's wife, Sarangi was "pressurising" him.
"Sarangi has written a letter to me saying she had met Praveen in jail on August 2, and they decided to discontinue with my services as their lawyer," Rajurkar said.
"There was also certain political pressure on me not to press for his bail application, and I fear danger to my life and property, and therefore I have decided to withdraw", he added.
