NEW DELHI: Political activity intensified on Friday evening as word was out that next week will see a new look Union Cabinet. The much-awaited reshuffle is likely to take place by Monday. A key part of the equation yet to be settled relates to the DMK's representation. In the midst of heightened speculation in New Delhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee landed in Chennai on Friday night, just a day after textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran resigned from the Manmohan Singh Cabinet against the backdrop of the 2G scam probe.Interestingly, Maran too left for Chennai on Friday and held a meeting with Karunanidhi there on the situation in Delhi, in the presence of DMK's parliamentary leader TR Baalu.A meeting between Mukherjee and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi is expected to take place on Saturday. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who too went to Chennai as part of his routine weekend trip, could also meet Karunanidhi on Saturday morning.Indications are that Pranab has gone to Chennai to "assuage'' the feelings of Congress' ally DMK.
