KOZHIKODE: Even after repeated incidents of bomb explosions and seizure of explosives in the Vadakara-Nadapuram region, the Police are groping in the dark. Though there was no stopping for violence, the police have failed to arrest the real culprits behind the supply of the explosives as they were unable to trace the sources of it.Moreover, the number of untoward incidents and intensity of rivalry between different political parties are going up day by day despite conducting regular search operations in the region. After a recent bomb blast that killed five IUML sympathisers, it was almost confirmed that the bombs were made in the region at large scale. However, the police could not curb the flow of explosive substances to the region. Apart from seizing bombs and weapons, the police had also seized raw materials sufficient to make more than 1,000 bombs from a hidden location near Koyambram Bridge at Chekkiyad near Nadapuram in the second week of May. They seized eight bombs, eight kilograms of gun powder, two sacks of granite stone pieces, 34 steel containers, four sacks of twines, glass pieces, ice cream balls, empty bottles of pesticides, and cotton. In another incident, following a tip-off, the police seized 13 bombs hidden inside two pipes at Kadameri near Nadapuram on Saturday. Recent incidents of bomb attacks, torching of houses and shops, stone-pelting and attack with weapons have worsened the situation in Vadakara, Valayam, Nadapuram and Kuttiadi. The Superintendent of Police, Kozhikode (Rural) has urged the owners of unoccupied land to conduct searches at their plots to prevent the miscreants from hiding bombs and explosives. He has also warned that case under Explosive Substances Act would be charged against those landowners who allow the law violators to use their land.
