An SP and additional SP were among those injured in the violence as police fired tear gas shells to disperse the stone pelting protesters. Enraged over the recovery of a cow caracas, a large number of people of a particular community staged a road blockade in the Chandan Nagar area at Indore.Later, members of another community allegedly started pelting them with stones which led to tension in the area, police said.

When police intervened in the matter, people started attacking them also with stones and in the melee, 25 people, including 20 police personnel, suffered injuries, they said. Two officers of the rank of superintendent of police (SP) and additional SP were hurt in the attack while a constable sustained bullet injury, sources said. Later, police lobbed teargas shells and cane-charged the protesters to bring the situation under control.

As a precautionary measure, district administration imposed a curfew in the Chandan Nagar police station limits where the situation is tense but under control, additional district magistrate (ADM) Alok Singh said. The area had earlier also witnessed clashes following dispute between the two communities over of a petty issue related to a game of cricket.
