THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday admitted in file a petition seeking a detailed probe into the mobile phone calls made by convicted Kerala Congress supremo R Balakrishna Pillai from prison. The petitioner, social activist Joy Kaitharath in his petition sought the court to entrust with the State Cyber Cell to extract the recorded telephonic conversations made by Pillai in the server of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and for the court to monitor the probe. The petitioner in his petition alleged that it was evident from the letter that Prisons ADGP Alexander Jacob sent to the Home Department on May 18, that the State Government was aware of Pillai using a mobile phone inside the prison. However, no proper enquiry was made in this regard. The petitioner also stated that Pillai could be subject to two years of imprisonment invoking Prisons Act 86 (1) for illegal possession of a mobile phone. Pillai’s aide Krishna Pillai had also been included as a respondent in the petition. Advocate Kowdiar M Rahul on behalf of the petitioner. The court will give the order on the petition on Thursday.
