People told me not to make '10 ml Love': Director

New Delhi: First time director Sharat Katariya's '10 ml Love' is going to hit the screens on Friday, December 7. The film stars Rajat Kapoor, Tisca Chopra, Purab Kohli, Tara Sharma, Koel Purie and Manu Rishi in prominent roles.

'10 m Love' is based on William Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Sharat Katariya explains why he chose to make this film, "I always wanted to make a comedy film. I tried a couple of stories, I was working on a story that had love potion in it but things were not falling into right places, then a friend suggested why don't you read 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', it's close to the kind of film you want to attempt. So, out of the five stories I had written I retained only two and added two more. One thing I knew that I have to keep the film very real and I think our biggest achievement is that we have kept the film very believable."

Rajat Kapoor has mostly been featured as suave, serious characters, "Most of the people were suggesting me to cast some established comedian in the film but I think Rajat was a good idea because the role was very over the top and if an actor with serious image would do that then there would be a new perspective to the role."

Assembling known faces for an off-beat film wouldn't have been easy, "There were only two things, we were not hiding the script and we made it clear to the actors that we have limited resources and time. Come only if you like your part as we don't want any baggage. It was my first film but I was sure of what I am doing. I was relying on the script even more than the direction."

Sharat further says, "One of the technicians took me aside and told me why are you making your life difficult by taking up a off-beat film. It will become like a stamp for you later in your career but for me the story was the most important thing. I don't know whether I will make any film after it or not so I will make it the way I want."

Katariya also explains the reason behind the name of the film, "Actually, the name of the film was something else in the beginning, it was 'Rangeen in Colour'. Somehow we lost that title to another production company. We finally went for this name because it had the essence of the story."
