IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah Gets Dawid Malan, Joe Root on Back to Back Balls; Ekana Stadium Erupts | WATCH
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Dawid Malan on 16, before getting Joe Root on a duck as England's top order crumbled while chasing India's 230-run target.

Jasprit Bumrah provided India with two early breakthroughs as he set the stage for the Men in Blue to defend their total of 229 against England. The undefeated Indian team locked horns with the defending champions in Lucknow on Sunday.

India fought their way to a total of 229 on a tricky surface as captain Rohit Sharma scored 87 while Suryakumar Yadav scored 49. In response, England came out to chase the 230-run target but they lost four early wickets and the defending champions were reeling at 39/4 after twin strikes from Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Bumrah got England opener Dawid Malan and Jot Root on back-to-back deliveries to stun the defending champions. Shami then turned on the heat with his two wickets as Jos Butter and Co. crumbled yet again under pressure.

It was the best start, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team could have hoped for, after they were invited to bat first for the first time in the tournament, and the hosts fought hard to put a score of 229/9 on the board.

Virat Kohli recorded a duck, but Rohit and KL Rahuk’s partnership of 91 runs steadied the ship after India slumped to 40/3.

Suryakumar Yadav missed out on a well-deserved half-century, however, he ensured that India got over the 200 mark, before Bumrah scored 16 runs, including a boundary which drew a huge cheer from the Lucknow crowd.

Malan and Bairstow started steady, the pair seemed to frustrate Mohammed Siraj early on, but Bumrah kept his nerve and broke the opening stand of 30 runs by castling a well-set Dawid.

Root came out to bat but was caught plumb in front of the stumps, and suddenly England were in an uphill battle in their chase. Buttler and Co. were in ninth place before the contest and after Shami’s two wickets, India were firmly on top in the contest.
