New Delhi: While India and Pakistan may be in a constant tiff on political front, the concept of a global village via internet seems to be working as Indian names and terms topped google searches from Pakistan in 2017.

Google has revealed that Pakistan has three Indian movies in its list of top five searched words in 2017, along with other India-originating searches.

Amir Khan starrer Dangal is the third highest searched for word in Pakistan in 2017. Ironically, the movie could not make it to the theatres there.

The wrestling bio-pic based on national wrestling champion Mahaveer Singh Phogat and his Olympic-medalist daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat was not well received by the neighbours. Pakistan censor board while reviewing the film for release had demanded removal of scenes that had the Indian flag and the national anthem playing in the background. Amir Khan, co-producer of the flick decided not to release the movie without the national anthem.

Featuring as the fourth highest searched word in Pakistan in 2017 is another Bollywood release, Raees. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as male leads, the movie had Pakistani actress Mahira Khan debuting as the leading lady. Hinting at a trend, Raees was banned in Pakistan as well.

According to the film certification board of Pakistan the movie portrayed Muslims in bad light. Pakistani news reports also said that the censor board felt action sequences displayed violence and had “inappropriate content.” The storyline of Raees revolves around the character of Raees Alam, a Muslim mafia don who builds an alcohol empire in the western Indian state of Gujarat, where the consumption and sale of liquor is prohibited.

Farhan Saeed, actor-singer from Pakistan who was a rage with his band Jal in India as well is most likely the reason for the fifth-most searched word in the neighbouring country: Half Girlfriend. Saeed paired up with Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal to sing the movie’s popular number, Thodi Der. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, the movie’s only achievement was ranking in the list.

Among the most searched for people in 2017, Pakistan has Indian actor Rishi Kapoor on the fourth spot. The actor had sparked off backlashes after his tweet on Pakistan occupied Kashmir where he said that we need to accept what is ours (India’s) and what is theirs. Following his tweet, Jammu-based social activist Sukesh C Khajuria knocked the door of District Magistrate, Jammu and filed a complaint against Kapoor seeking action under section 196 for alleged sedition charges for accepting PoK as part of Pakistan.

The Kapil Sharma show is the second-most searched news item in Pakistan. Interestingly, Indian comedian Kapil Sharma acted in his self-produced film, Firangi that was set in the pre-independence era portraying the close association people from both sides of the border have with each other. The show is not aired anymore.
