THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Corporation has managed to maintain the same vigour in the consecutive second week too in its mission to bring litterbugs before the law.The health squads of the City Corporation have booked as many as 54 persons, who were found strewing garbage packed in plastic carry bags in public places during the previous week. As many as 46 persons were booked for similar charges during the week before, thereby taking the toll of total persons booked to 100, ever since the launch of the operations to hunt down litterbugs. A total penalty sum of Rs 18,000 was also imposed on the persons, who were booked. Most number of cases were recorded in the Medical College circle, where the squad led by Health Inspector Ramesh Kumar slapped case against 11 persons. The number of cases registered at other health circles is as follows; Fort - 2, Chalai - 4, Sasthamangalam - 2, Chenthitta - 6, Palayam - 6, Thirumala - 4, Beach - 1, Sreekanteswaram - 4, Nanthencode - 2, Jagathy - 2, Thiruvallom - 1, Karamana - 1, Secretariat- 3, Kadakampally - 3, Nemom - 1 and Ulloor - 1. The Corporation authorities have said that the squads will be operatiing 24 hours a day. The public can also alert the squads on the activities of litterbugs on the number 9496434517.
