CHENNAI: The Annamalai University, which is among the pioneers of distance education in the country, has come up with another ace programme. If the part-time and correspondence routes to an MBA were not enough, the university has launched an online MBA programme, in collaboration with a citybased management training consultancy.The online MBA course is aimed at working professionals, students of other disciplines and corporate employees looking for further qualifications, said M Ramanathan, Vice Chancellor of Annamalai University.“There is great demand for convenient avenues for higher education. The government has announced its aim of increasing access to college education in the country from the current 12 per cent to 25 per cent. Distance education programmes have a huge role to play in the coming years,” he said.The online MBA will take books and printed study matter out of the equation and transfer study materials at the click of the mouse. Students of the course will not be required to sit for contact classes.The students would have to sit for offline examinations once a year, and the course would take the same two year period to complete as a regular MBA course, said C P Gopinathan, Director of Threesixtyone Degree Minds Consulting, that is the brain behind the initiative.The online MBA will be offered in three disciplines – Marketing, Financial and Human Resources. The price of the online course will be on scale decided by the Annamalai University, and is expected to cost around `30,000 a year.
