To counter the Onam rush, the city police will deploy 2,500 police men and women across the city, for tightening the security system, said City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar in a press release.
As part of the security drive, 24 police posts will be set up in different parts of the city.
About 12 posts of this will be set up in Ernakulam town area alone. The public will be availed with 24 hour police service from these posts.
Every road and street would be under the surveillance of the police. Foot patrolling and vehicle patrolling would be intensified with 60 patrolling units deputed during the Onam season.
Activities of the police control room has also been intensified with 16 vehicles roaming across the city.
Shadow police are also directed to maintain surveillance of crowded areas. Women Shadow Police will travel in buses and in shopping areas to ensure safety of women.
The borders of the city would be sealed using high definition surveillance cameras and all vehicles entering the city would be closely watched.
Other security cameras in the city will also be operational for monitoring the situation in the city. A control room will be set up near the Ernakulam Shiva Temple during the Onam festival.
