KOCHI: PWD executive engineer V Hashi on Sunday visited the land allotted for Moolampilly evictees and promised to construct a road from Vallarpadom Container Terminal road to the plot. He also spoke with Moolampilly coordination committee members. The land was given to the evictees under the rehabilitation package after the monitoring committee members conducted a meeting with District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth last week.In the meeting held with the Collector, Moolampilly coordination committee general convener Francis Kulathingal demanded that amenities like road, electricity and water be provided before the onset of monsoon. He also demanded funds for the piling work of the building which received the permit.Earlier, the coordination committee members were planning to relaunch the agitation after most of the promises made by the government remained unfulfilled.Even after 10 months since the announcement of the package, only a few amount was granted to the people.Besides, most of the families were yet to be rehabilitated properly as the land allotted to them lacked the basic facilities such as electricity, water and roads. Another promise was the evictees would be given jobs under the Vallarpadam project. However, no measure has been taken to ensure this. The monitoring committee will work towards speeding up the full rehabilitation of the evictees.
