Dismissing the evidence provided by India into the Pathankot terror attacks case, Pakistan has said that they do not have enough proof to establish the role of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) cheif Maulana Masood Azhar in the case.
The report was based on the findings of the team constituted by Pakistan to probe the attacks. Pakistan NSA Lt-Gen (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua conveyed the report to his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval recently. As per reports, Janjua contacted Doval to update him on the SIT probe and to work out possible dates for talks between the foreign secretaries of the two countries.
India has maintained that they have provided several proofs to Pakistan, including call records, which reveal the hand of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar in the Pathankot terror attacks. The Foreign Secretary-level talks between the two countries have been put on hold as India wants Pakistan to act against the perpetrators of the attack before going ahead with any dialogue.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formed the six-member investigation team in the second week of January to look into India's allegations that JeM was behind the Pathankot attack.
Sharif had also recently admitted that the attacks have derailed the Indo-Pak dialogue. "Talks with India were progressing but the Pathankot attack has affected the dialogue process," he said on Saturday.
Six gunmen had attacked an Pathankot Air Force base on January 2, 2016 leading to a three-day-long stand-off in which seven soldiers lost their lives.
