Indian and Pakistani governments generally do not issue visas to the other’s serving military officials.

New Delhi: The Pakistan kabaddi team will not be able to participate in Kabaddi World Cup, which begins on Wednesday in Panvel as the Indian government has decided not to issue visa to the team reportedly because some of the players are from the armed forces.

The President of the International Kabaddi Federation and the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India Janardan Singh Gehlot said that the Indian government did not issue the visa to the Pakistan team as some players were from the armed forces.

Gehlot described it as a 'great loss to the championship'.

“I don’t understand why only the kabaddi team is being barred while the squash, tennis, and cricket teams come over all the time,” Gehlot said.

On the other hand the, Secretary General of the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation, Mohammad Sarvar didn't even knew that his team had been denied the visa.

"The team is waiting outside the Indian embassy (in Islamabad) for visas and I am just praying they get them soon,” he said.

He said that there were some players in the team who were from the armed forces.

"We do have a few players from the army and the navy,” he said, “but I am not aware why visas are not being issued."

The two countries generally do not issue visas to the other’s serving military officers.
