No compensation for Vandana, says Agra DM
Vandana will be kept under observation in an Agra hospital for 48 hours.

New Delhi: After her 27-hour long ordeal, 2-year-old Vandana is safe now. The Army has rescued her from the 45-feet deep borewell she fell into.

The condition of Vandana is stable and improved but she is expected to be in hospital for four to five days, doctors said on Thursday.

Vandana will be kept under observation in an Agra hospital for 48 hours.

Vandana's ordeal began on Tuesday evening when she stumbled into a borewell, only one-and-a-half feet wide.

The bold rescue effort was aided by lessons learned from the past.

The armymen who planned the operation relied on the report prepared after the rescue of five-year-old Prince, who fell into a well in Haryana last year.

Vandana is now sleeping in the ICU with her parents by her side, even as the family returns to life that had been derailed for the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Agra's DM Mukesh Kumar Meshram has said that the administration will not give any compensation to Vandana. But she will get the treatment she needs.

Excerpts from the chat with Mr Meshram

Q: In this particular incident whom are you blaming - the contractor, the administration for what Vandana had to go through for over 27 hours?

Ans: Basically it was dug by the father of Vandana himself in this land through public contractor so government was not basically involved but even then we will take some penal action against the contractor.

Q: Any compensation that you have thought of?

Ans: As such there is no compensation required as per the norms even then we will provide all kind of support to that child like free education and free medical and whatever she requires.

Q: Thank you so much for talking to us.

What's your reaction?
