New Excise Policy only after bypolls

HYDERABAD: The cabinet sub-committee on new excise policy met at the Secretariat on Saturday and examined the excise policies in force in other states.The meeting, chaired by excise minister and chairman of the sub-committee K Parthasarathi, was attended by Sabita Indra Reddy, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, D.Sridhar Babu and C Ramachandraiah.The next meeting will be held here on May 30, Parthasarathi said and added that the new policy would be announced after the byelections in view of the election code being in force.Officials are weighing the options of a lottery system for licensing and government taking over the retail business.
