New Delhi: The Indo-US Nuclear Deal is in its home stretch. Voting in the US Congress is expected to take place on Saturday night India time, bringing with it closure to a script that has seen many twists and turns.
The suspense over the fate of the nuclear deal continues for another couple of hours however, when the House of Representatives of US Congress undertakes a formal vote on the Bill.
The vote could not take place on Friday because despite clear support for it in a show of hands, the required quorum - two-thirds of the members - were not present in the House. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee leaves for US on Saturday night to give the final touches before wrapping up the deal.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be in New Delhi on October 3 on a day-long visit during which the two sides are expected to sign the 123 Agreement.
Rice, whose visit has been pending for over a year mainly because of uncertainty over the nuclear deal, will hold talks with Pranab Mukherjee on bilateral and regional issues.
The two leaders are also expected to sign the 123 Agreement if it gets the expected clearance from the US Congress by then, sources say.
