Mysore-Bangalore road eateries incur losses

The Cauvery agitation for another 7-10 days could mean a temporary shutdown for many dhabas, resorts and restaurants on the Mysore-Bangalore road.

Faced with 50 per cent losses ever since protests began blocking the highway, many owners are contemplating to shut down their business until the Cauvery agitation dies down.

The 12-kilometre stretch between Mysore Ring Road and Srirangapatna is dotted with dhabas, hotels and resorts.

There are about 25 such business establishments which used to do well throughout the year because of the heavy flow of traffic on the highway.

Harish Kumar, the proprietor of Green Park Punjabi Dhaba said, “I had spent over Rs 2 lakh to replace the worn out roofs of huts expecting good returns during Dasara.

By this time, the footfalls would have gone up by at least 25 percent.

But unfortunately, the business went down by 50 percent,” he said adding that if the situation continues, he would be forced to shut down the business temporarily.

Even the petrol pumps have registered a loss of about 40-50 percent.

There are over half a dozen petrol pumps between Ring Road and Srirangapatna which used to sell on an average 3,000 litres of petrol and diesel per day.
