The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said Mumbai was likely to see rain or thundershowers on Thursday afternoon or evening three days after 16 people were killed and over 70 others were left injured when a huge billboard at Chheda Nagar in the Ghatkopar area collapsed due to gusty winds on Monday evening.
“Rain or thundershowers would occur towards afternoon or evening,” the Met Office said in its Mumbai weather forecast for Thursday.
In its all India weather bulletin, the Met Office said, “Isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (40-60 kmph) is very likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada on May 16 and 17th. Isolated hailstorm activity is very likely over Madhya Maharashtra on May 16”
Mumbai and Thane are currently facing heatwave conditions. Amid the sweltering conditions, the India Meteorological (IMD) had issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and Thane on Wednesday along with the possibility of a thunderstorm.
IMD scientist Sushma Nair said Thane and Vikhroli (in Mumbai) recorded temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius and above on Tuesday.
