Mumbai: Helping put the pieces together to solve the alleged murder mystery of Sheena Bora, the JJ Hospital in Mumbai has handed over the bones and teeth samples that it received in May 2012 to the police.
"We today handed over samples of bones, teeth that we revived from Pen police on May 25, 2012. JJ hospital had sent its report on samples in December 2012," Dean of JJ Hospital Dr Lahane said.
Police are probing the area at Raigad, on the outskirts of Mumbai, where alleged remains of Sheena's body were found in 2012. Police are believed to have recovered some evidence, too, from the spot.
Meanwhile, Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna has been sent to police custody till the August 31. The public prosecutor has accused him of murder, criminal conspiracy and destroying the evidence.
The court has also allowed Indrani's lawyer to meet her. Her lawyer Gunjan Mangla had made a plea to metropolitan magistrate that court direct police to allow her to meet Indrani.
Meanwhile, according to police sources, the individual who forged Sheena Bora's signature in letters to her landlord and workplace is an employee of Indrani Mukherjea and has admitted to doing so.
While the Mumbai Police had on Thursday said that samples of Sheena's remains that were found on May 23, 2012 in Pen were sent to the FSL lab for DNA testing, sources said that the samples are now untraceable.
Police sources had claimed that proper procedure was followed by Raigad Police in preserving the crime scene in May 2012.
There have been several twists and turns in the murder case. Sheena was allegedly killed by her mother Indrani Mukherjea who is the wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjea.
While two confessions were made in connection with the murder case on Thursday, the motive of the killing could not be ascertained by the investigators. Even as Indrani's driver spilled the beans on the modus operandi of the crime, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna stopped short of confessing to the crime.
