It’s been a whole 7 years since Arjun Reddy took the box office by storm, and Vijay Deverakonda and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga are still feeling the love. To mark the anniversary of their blockbuster hit, the duo had a fun exchange on X (formerly Twitter). Vijay couldn’t resist and cheekily gave Sandeep an ultimatum, reminding everyone just how much the film still means to them both.
Vijay took to X to share some behind-the-scenes photos from the Arjun Reddy set and asked Sandeep to drop the ‘full cut’ of the film on its 10th anniversary. He wrote, “Give the people ‘The SandeepVanga #ArjunReddy full cut’ for the 10 years anniversary @imvangasandeep! I cannot believe it is 7 years already, remember so many moments as if it was last year.” Sandeep quoted the tweet and wrote that he missed Vijay ‘more’ on the film’s anniversary. He wrote, “Vijay…. for sure we should make it for the 10th anniversary. Missing you more today.”
Vijay was hinting at Sandeep’s original version of Arjun Reddy, which was over 4 hours long! The final cut we all saw is 3 hours and 2 minutes, but Sandeep’s first edit explored Arjun’s story much further. When the CBFC gave it an A certificate, Sandeep felt like they didn’t appreciate his ‘creative struggle’.
Arjun Reddy (2017) starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles. The film follows the turbulent life of a brilliant but self-destructive medical student, Arjun Reddy, who spirals into addiction and anger after losing his girlfriend, Preethi. While critically acclaimed and commercially successful, the film faced backlash for glorifying toxic masculinity and abusive behaviour.

In 2019, it was remade in Hindi as Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. The remake was a box office hit but drew even more criticism for its portrayal of misogyny and unhealthy relationships, sparking a big debate in Indian cinema.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s second Bollywood film, Animal, also stirred up controversy. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri, the film faced heavy criticism for its excessive violence and blatant misogyny. Critics were up in arms, accusing the film of glorifying toxic masculinity with scenes that normalised abuse and portrayed aggression as heroic.
Vijay Deverakonda will be next seen in a period drama, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. On the personal front, he’s rumoured to be dating Rashmika Mandanna. Sandeep Reddy Vanga will be directing Animal Park next. The film is expected to star Ranbir Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.
