Mumbai Film Festival: Watch out for 'On The Road'
French, Italian, British and Indian, expect a heady mix of cinema from across the world at Mumbai Film Festival.

Mumbai: French, Italian, British and Indian - expect a heady mix of cinema from across the world at the forthcoming 14th Mumbai Film Festival, to be held here Oct 18-25. International award-winning films like 'Love' and 'On The Road' will be screened during the gala.

Movie buffs will be in for a treat during the festival, presented by Reliance Entertainment and American Express and organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image.

Special event segments are dedicated to French, Italian, Afghan and Indian cinema this year, as well as to silent films accompanied by a live orchestra.

Here's a list of top 20 movies, a few out of which are official entries for the best foreign language film category for the 85th Academy Awards, to watch out for at the festival:

1. Love (Amour): A 2012 French-language drama film written and directed by legendary filmmaker Michael Haneke.

2. Rust and Bone (De rouille et d'os): A 2012 French-Belgian film based on a short story collection of the same name written by Craig Davidson.

3. The Angels' Share: A British comedy-drama film directed by Ken Loach.

4. On the Road (Sur la route): A 2012 film adaptation of the Jack Kerouac cult classic novel of the same name, directed by Walter Salles.

5. Children of Sarajevo (Djeca): A 2012 Bosnian drama film written, produced and directed by former Cannes Critics Week Grand Prix award recipient, Aida Begic.

6. Me and You (Io e Te): This is the latest film by Italian cinematic genius Bernardo Bertolucci.

7. You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet: With this latest film by veteran French-German filmmaker Alain Resnais, credited as one of the founding fathers of French New Wave, he proves he is capable of creating cinematic magic at the ripe age of 90.

8. Outrage Beyond: A 2012 Japanese yakuza film directed by Takeshi Kitano.

9. Gebo And The Shadow (Gebo et l'ombre): A film by Manoel de Oliveira, this is based on a play by Raul Brandao.

10. The Gardener: The movie, directed by exiled Iranian New Wave director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, the movie explores how different generations view religion and peace.

11. Something in the Air (Apres mai): A French drama, this film is marked for its depiction of Paris in the early 1970s.

12. Blancanieves: A film by Spanish director, publicist and professor of management at New York Film Academy, Pablo Berger, chronicles the story of Carmen, a beautiful young woman with a childhood tormented by her terrible stepmother, Encarna.

13. Renoir: Distinguished filmmaker Gilles Bourdos, this film competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.

14. Stories We Tell: Acclaimed Canadian writer-director-actress Sarah Polley has woven an assembled tapestry of home movies, interviews, and narration in this film to examine the repercussions of long-held family secrets finally coming to light, allowing the audience to reflect on each of their own family histories, both real and fabricated.

15. The Hunt: An example of renowned Danish director Thomas Vinterberg's trademark brand of intense cinema, the film is about the life of a primary school teacher accused of sexual inappropriateness.

16. Cosmopolis: Having premiered in competition for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, 'Cosmopolis' is a film by David Cronenberg.

17. Beyond The Hills (Dupa Dealuri): Considered a masterpiece by Cristian Mungiu, Romania's first director to be awarded the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie is a drama film centered on the friendship between two young women who grew up in the same orphanage.

18. Like Someone in Love: Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami has explored the depths of unrequited desire in this Japanese language drama.

19. Captive: Ace Filipino film director Brillante Mendoza presents a riveting drama, recreating the 2001 kidnapping and torturous life of hostages during their 377-day ordeal.

20. As Luck Would Have It: A dark comic film by Alex de la Iglesia, the movie also features Mexican screen scorcher Salma Hayek.
