New Delhi: The Mumbai Police, which is still reeling under the shock of the Sunil More?s dastardly act in April this year, was in for another blow on Monday night.
Head Constable Chandrakant Vitthal Pawar raped a minor near Mumbai?s busy Sahar International Airport at around 10:30 pm last night.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was on her way home ? a slum near the Sahar international airport ? when Pawar dragged her inside the police chowki and began to rape her.
On hearing her screams passers by intervened and rescued the hapless girl from the policeman?s clutches.
Pawar was in highly intoxicated state and allegedly threatened one of the rescuers, an auto rickshaw driver demanding a sum of Rs 15,000 from him.
When the police arrived on the scene the girl and the accused were then immediately taken for a medical examination where rape was confirmed.
Pawar has been remanded to police custody till the October 25th and booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, under which rape is punishable with seven years imprisonment.
The girl has been taken to a children?s home in Nagpada.
