Months After Disastrous Floods, Himachal Welcomes Lakhs of Tourists On Christmas Eve
Another concern for the administration has been to conduct the traffic in a way that everyone is able to travel and celebrate peacefully and safely

Lakhs of tourists answered the mountains’ call and arrived in Himachal Pradesh to ring in Christmas and New Year. Currently, the state is witnessing a massive sea of tourists in all its famous tourist hotspots, more so at the 9.2 km-long Atal Tunnel Rohtang.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “We welcome tourists, who have come to the State in such a huge number, crossing over lakhs.”

He added that around 65,000 tourists with over 12000 vehicles carrying them, were recorded at Atal Tunnel — the longest in the world located at a height of 10,000 feet — in Rohtang on December 24.

An almost recuperated Himachal has opened its doors to welcome in the tourists to ring in the festive celebrations.

CM Sukhu lauded the efforts of the district administration and the Police officials for handling the rush efficiently, while helping in making their trip a memorable one.

Specifically at North and South Portal of Rohtang Tunnel, where police and local teams have been managing the traffic in minus 12 degrees Celsius temperature.

The chief minister noted that his state will soon be back up on its feet from the impact of the disaster and in fact, as a show of reality, today Himachal is readily welcoming tourists.

Lakhs of tourists have been to several parts of the state, DGP Kundu said.

Sharing some photographs of the Atal Tunnel, Kundu told ANI, “The local administration and the Police force of both the Lahaul Spiti and Kullu districts have been working commendably 24×7 to manage the traffic smoothly in almost minus 12 degrees’ temperature and ensuring that everyone reaches safe at their destination.”

Another concern for the administration has been to conduct the traffic in a way that everyone is able to travel and celebrate peacefully and safely.

The district police has made special arrangements and have prepared an action plan for better managing the traffic during Christmas. Rescue and evacuation operations have also been taken into consideration under the plan, Kullu district police said.

“Strict vigilance is being maintained through CCTV cameras and drones. Kullu Police is committed to maintaining proper law and order within the district,” a Kullu district police’s press release said.

The released said that the district police is alert day and night to ensure that safety of the tourists, keeping in mind the slippery roads, snow and black ice.

Vehicular movement hit a snag on Saturday after some areas near the Atal Tunnel received fresh snowfall.
