New Delhi: The revival of monsoon has also brought floods in many parts of the country. Several rivers in Uttar Pradesh have breached their embankments following incessant rain. The National Highway 119 is submerged, bringing traffic to a halt on the road that connects Bijnor to Delhi. The Malan River, which has changed its course, has flooded several low lying areas nearby.
In West Bengal's North Dinajpur district floodwaters have inundated hundreds of homes and acres of agricultural land. Officials say food and relief material are being distributed among families who've been badly affected.
In Andhra Pradesh's Mahboob Nagar a man was stuck on a rock after the gates of a nearby dam were opened. He was stuck for almost 12 hours before being rescued. The area has witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days.
Life has been seriously hit by heavy showers in Maharashtra's Konkan region too. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts are affected worst. Schools and colleges have been closed in Chiplun due to flooding. At least two people are missing after being washed away in the flood waters. Rail traffic on the Konkan route has been severely hit mud piled up on the tracks.
Incessant rains have triggered fears in flooding in Veraval in Gujarat as well. Floods are imminent after the gates of a nearby dam were opened. Several low lying areas are already inundated.
