BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to launch measures on a mission mode to eradicate child labour from the State by 2014. A decision to this effect was taken at the child labour advisory board meeting presided over by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Pushpendra Singhdeo on Tuesday.Child labourers will be identified in all the districts of the State and admitted to schools run under the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) temporarily in the first phase. Later, the freed child labourers will be admitted to regular schools under the Right to Education Act based on their age. Singhdeo has said that keeping this in view, measures will be launched by the Labour Department on a mission mode.The Minister said that a sub-committee will be constituted comprising government officials from various departments, non-government organisations (NGOs) and trade unions for preparing an action plan within a month. The project will be assisted by Unicef.Task forces will be constituted at the district level basing on the recommendation of the sub-committee. The task forces to be headed by the district labour officers (DLOs) will identify child labourers. The minister said that district child welfare committee, health committee and education committees and NGOs working for eradication of child labour will be entrusted with the task to persuade parents not to allow their children to work.The Minister said that initially cluster task forces will be constituted including four to five districts to expedite the implementation of the programme.It was decided that the Centre will be approached to include Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Boudh, Kendrapara, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts under the NCLP. The programme is being implemented in 24 districts of the State.
