Woman chances upon decomposed body of son in a farm; autopsy confirms murder

A woman’s two-day long search for her missing son ended on a gory note, after she found the 38-year-old man’s body buried in a farm near Ondipudur on Tuesday.

Police said the body, which was subsequently recovered, was slightly decomposed and there were several deep stab injuries on different parts. They suspect that the victim could have been murdered by a gang.

Sowripalayam resident Karthikeyan alias Raja has been missing since Saturday night. Raja’s mother Sathyabama lodged a missing complaint. But when she realised that the police were not seriously investigating the incident, Sathyabama, along with her daughter Tamil Mozhi, set out to search for Raja on her own.

“We were searching near our farm at Ondipudur as Raja was last seen leaving from the place around 11 pm. At one particular spot, there were several foot marks leading to an adjacent farm. When I trailed it, I was shocked to see a few toes protruding from the land. I was sure it was my son,” said Sathyabama as she fought to hold back tears. The Singanallur police was alerted and a team lead by deputy commissioner of police Hema Karunakaran reached the spot. The body was exhumed in the presence of the Revenue District Officer (RDO) and the autopsy was conducted on the spot.

Confirming that it was a case of murder, police said they were probing several angles. “The victim was stabbed in a dozen places all over the body. We are yet to make any major breakthrough in the case,” a police officer said. Raja’s relatives suspected the involvement of a man he beat up during a quarrel a month ago. “About a month back, a man came to our farm and tried to misbehave with a woman caretaker. My brother beat him up and also took away his bike. That man could have murdered by brother in revenge,” said Tamil Mozhi. Relatives also claimed that over the past two days, they have been seeing some persons moving around the farm in a suspicious manner.  Raja was survived by wife Sutha and two children.
