CHENNAI: Metro Water slammed big commercial establishments for constructing terminal collection chambers of their internal waste water disposal system on the side of the road or on footpaths in violation of rules, on Saturday. This was observed during an inspection carried out by Metro Water MD Dr K Gopal in Thiyagaraya Nagar area.Urging the owners of commercial establishments to construct or reconstruct the terminal collection chambers of their waste water system(sullage and sewage) within the boundary of their premises, Dr Gopal said, “Solid waste and other plastic waste gets into these chambers, leading to blockage of sewer lines which results in overflow of sewage on the road.”Rain water also enters such chambers causing heavy pressure on the existing sewer lines. This causes physical hindrance to the pedestrians and also to vehicular traffic, he added.
