CHENNAI: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a construction labourer near Pammal on Tuesday last. The victim, Vijay, a native of Tiruvannamalai, was engaged as a construction worker at a building site on Maduravoyal Bypass Road near Pammal. On Monday last, Vijay went out in the evening and failed to return that night. The next day, his body was found with the head smashed with a stone amid bushes near the site. Shankar Nagar police traced the suspects Rajamani and Manikandan through Vijay’s cell phone, which the duo had stolen. Grilled, they confessed to the murder, saying they killed Vijay in order to steal his cell phone. They said they wanted to sell it and buy drinks. The two were arrested and remanded.Biker KilledA 21-year-old biker was killed, when he lost control of his two-wheeler and skidded at Triplicane on Sunday. The victim, Satish Kumar, a resident of Swaminathan Thottam in Saidapet, was proceeding on Santhome High Road towards Marina Beach, with his friend riding pillion. Around 4.15 pm, Satish Kumar was near the Santhome Church, when he skidded and died on the spot. His friend was admitted in the government hospital in Royapettah in a serious condition, Adyar Traffic Investigation police said.40 Sovereigns StolenBurglars decamped with 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash from a pawn shop near Poonamalle on Saturday. Sources said Baburam, a resident of JJ Nagar near Karappakkam, ran a pawn shop at Santhosh Nagar. When he arrived at his shop on Saturday morning, he found the lock broken and the jewels and cash stolen from the safe. He lodged a complaint at the Poonamalle police station.
