Failing to impress the private bus drivers at the mobility hub at Vyttila, the newly-launched advanced punching system is currently lying idle at the world class station. At least, most of the time! According to sources, very few punching card details of the buses have showed up in the punching system cabin computer in the last two weeks. The system is solely responsible for monitoring all details of the buses.
Sources cite that the majority of the bus conductors have gone lax, immediately after the system was launched at the hub by Excise Minister K Babu. “Initially, the conductors were eagerly making use of the Radio Frequency Identification Device because of the novelty factor. However, the laxity in the administration of the punching cards at the punching system cabin prompted the conductors to not bother much after a while, sources allege. “Because there is nobody to properly monitor the system, the conductors stopped taking the trouble to punch,” sources said. Consequently, a few of the private buses have again started skipping entry to the hub, a grave violation to the very purpose of setting up the RFID, according to sources. The system, which was launched on August 11 with much fanfare, was meant to ensure that all the passengers get immediate access to every detail
of the bus, including its arrival and departure time. Also, this will ensure that all the private buses moving in and around the city and going on long distance routes will enter the hub, Vyttila Mobility Hub managing director M Beena had said earlier. Some inside sources also allege that the officials at the cabin are teaming up with the private bus staff and are turning a blind eye to the buses not entering the hub. “There has been two or three transfers of effective police officials who were monitoring the workings of the Mobility hub in the past. However, currently, a nexus between the officials and the bus staff has cropped up, which is affecting the development of the hub in a big way,” sources said. Currently, there are still many pending applications for punching cards yet to be rolled out to the bus drivers. Speaking on the laxity of the bus conductors who fail to punch the cards, SI Aboobacker, in charge of the cabin, said the police are making all efforts to ensure that the bus conductors punch their cards at the RFID.
