The book aims to define the most appropriate preventive measures in the science of Cosmetic Dermatology for the protection of hair and skin.

In the august company of the Ambassador of France, leading lights of Indian Dermatologists and L'Oreal's top research and innovation experts, L'Oreal launched "Basic Science for Modern Cosmetic Dermatology", a unique collaborative book co-authored by 24 Indian dermatologists and 24 L'Oreal R&I experts. Edited by Professor Srinivas and Dr Verschoore; Assistant editor: Claire Battie - this book with 16 chapters covers all the relevant topics for dermatologists on the border between dermatology and cosmetics.

The book aims to define the most appropriate preventive measures in the science of Cosmetic Dermatology for the protection of hair and skin. Over the past few years, there has been tremendous progress in the development of new tools for medical purposes. In particular, the advances in molecular biology, genomics and proteomics for profiling individuals according to their innate characteristics and changes of the environment, cultural habits etc have been exponential. Those new tool allow medical professionals to better understand hair and skin, and have become very useful in dermatology and in cosmetic science.

The latest innovation in cosmetic science dedicated to Indian skin and hair is therefore of particular interest for all Indian dermatologists.

Dr. Michele Verschoore, Medical Director - L'Oreal Research & Innovation said, "The objective of this book was to gather the most recent advance in basic science and knowledge in cosmetic dermatology for a better understanding of skin and hair physiology behind pertinent prevention strategies. It also served to build and expand our network with dermatologists who are emerging as key influencers & trust for skincare in India, and to exchange scientific expertise with our Indian counterparts."

The textbook is a rich collaborative effort between Indian and French experts in providing a deeper understanding of basic cosmetic science and their application to dermatology, and showcases the vast opportunities for knowledge sharing and research partnerships between Indian and French scientists.

Speaking at this occasion, the Minister Counsellor of the French Embassy, Mr Jean-Marc Seré-Charlet, highlighted what he considers as the result of a fruitful partnership between a French company and some of its Indian academic partners. The public health topic addressed can thus benefit of the latest scientific knowledge and expertise in the field of dermatology. He also insisted on the promising perspectives of collaboration in research and development between France and India, between public and private sectors, that such initiative brings in.

India is one of the richest civilizations in terms of beauty habits and routines, and offers a wide diversity of skin and hair. Recognising this, L'Oreal inaugurated a state of the art R&I Center in India which is the Group's 6th R&I hub globally[1]. It includes both a Product Development Center in Mumbai and an Advanced Research Center in Bangalore and will employs over 100 Indian researchers and scientists from the fields of Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Physics and Biology.

The quality and safety of our products for our consumers is top priority for L'Oreal. This is achieved through rigorous scientific studies that are performed at our new centers in Mumbai and Bangalore with the help of our worldwide L'Oreal R&I and external collaborators. We will continue to engage ourselves to bring innovation and to serve our consumers in India with the best fit to their needs".

The R&I Center in India reflects L'Oreal's confidence in the great potential of the Indian market and its strong commitment to the country. It is in line with L'Oreal's universalization strategy of adapting our global brands to each culture's specific needs backed by deep scientific expertise."
