MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi has revealed why the World Cup-winning skipper hung up his boots in Test cricket early. During the Chennai Super Kings’ Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chepauk on April 8, a fan shared an old clip of Sakshi reminiscing about Dhoni’s unexpected retirement from Test cricket in 2014. She said, “When he stepped down from Test cricket, we always had a hint that he was going to step down. I even remember telling him, ‘If you want a child you should step down from at least one format because you won’t have the time to enjoy with your child’”
In the same video – a compilation of Sakshi’s interviews, she also shared an intriguing glimpse into the personal dynamics of the couple’s household. She shed some light on the sacrifices and joys of being married to the World Cup-winning skipper. “People tell me I had to sacrifice so much being his wife. I say, ‘No, nothing, it’s all love’. When you are in, you cannot call it sacrifice” she said. Sakshi’s response reflects the mutual understanding and the companionship shared by the duo in their journey so far.

Sakshi has been a constant source of support for MS Dhoni throughout his career. She recently attended Chennai’s IPL 2024 game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 5. Their daughter Ziva was also in attendance to watch her father play. The reigning champions uploaded a photograph of the mother-daughter duo watching the game from the stands. In the picture, Sakshi could be seen rocking a yellow dress to show her support for the team. Sunrisers Hyderabad proved to be the better team on the day, beating the reigning IPL champions by six wickets. MS Dhoni was unable to make much of an impact in the match, scoring only a run in two balls.
