Laugh riot at police HQ
Laugh riot at police HQ

As usual, film actor Suraj Venjaramoodu did not disappoint an audience  anticipating his quick-witted jokes. The cops at Police Headquarters, Vellayambalam, had a whale of time on Friday morning during the cultural meeting held on the sidelines of the Onam celebrations when the chief guest stole the show with humour and laughter.

When Suraj recollected his first ‘police station’ experience two decades ago, the crowd burst into laughter. It went on like this; Suraj was practising his part as a drunkard for a skit at a wayside eatery at midnight along with his friend. Policemen who were passing by picked him up for being inebriated. Only at the police station could he prove his innocence before the Sub-Inspector.

Before letting him free, the police officer made Suraj perform the entire part of the skit at the station that night itself and also warned him not to rehearse on the roadside anymore.

The fun did not stop. Suraj played his trump cards one after the other. He imitated the signature dialogue of Mohanlal in the movie ‘Aaram Thampuran’, followed by Mammootty’s dialogue in ‘Oru Vadakkan Veera Gadha.’ Suraj did not forget to show that he was not bad at imitating female voices too. A thunderous applause followed soon after he mimicked the voice of Bindu Panicker.

Suraj also looked at the ‘pookkalams’ created by the policemen at the headquarters and distributed prizes for those who won various competitions.

The Onam celebrations were inaugurated by Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan earlier in the day.  Cine artiste Sona Nair, who was also present on the occasion, wished a prosperous Onam for all who gathered. DGP Jacob Punnoose, IG Manoj Abraham and AIG Anoop Kuruvila John were also present. The celebrations were organised by the Staff Recreation Club and Welfare Society of the Police Headquarters.
