New Delhi: A notice was issued to the Indian Premier League Chairman Lalit Modi by the Rajasthan High Court on Friday for leaving the country without the prior permission of the court.
Rajasthan HC reportedly asked Modi why his bail should not be cancelled in relation to a police case filed against him for not giving money to the victims of Jaipur blast, which was announced during IPL season 1 in 2008, in the presence of the then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
A complaint had been registered by an NGO Nagrik Morcha accusing Modi of irregularities in disbursement of funds to the tune of Rs 6 crore, which the IPL had promised to give to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for victims of May 13 Jaipur bomb blasts last year.
A case was registered against Modi under Section 420 (cheating) and 467 (forgery) of the IPC at Jyoti Nagar Police Station in Jaipur.
According to the FIR, after a match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on May 17 last year at SMS stadium in Jaipur, Modi had presented a cheque of Rs 6 crore to then Raje but the entire amount was never deposited.
Modi was earlier granted anticipatory bail by Justice SP Pathak.
