In the first major administrative shakeup, Koirala Government has recalled ambassadors to 12 countries, including India.

Kathmandu: In the first major administrative shakeup since assuming office a week ago, Girija Prasad Koirala's Government on Sunday recalled ambassadors of Nepal to 12 countries, including India, who were appointed during King Gyanendra's rule and annulled all political appointments made during that period.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Nepalese cabinet chaired by Koirala.

Nepal's ambassadors to India, the US, Pakistan, Japan, France, China and Britain have been recalled, National News Agency (RSS) reported.

The government also decided to scrap political appointments made in various corporations, government bodies and state-owned institutions made after October 4, 2004, when the King sacked Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and assumed absolute power.

The King's absolute rule came to an end last month in the wake of weeks of pro-democracy protests led by the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA), leading to restoration of democratic government headed by Koirala.
