BANGALORE: This June, Spic Macay Bangalore Chapter will inaugurate international wing of Spic Macay known as SPWHAY (Society for Promotion of World Heritage Amongst Youth).Spic Macay in association with SPWHAY will present Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, the famous Khayal vocalist from Pakistan on this occasion.The main aim of Spic Macay Bangalore and SPWHAY is to inspire the youth and provide them an opportunity to witness art forms and rich cultural heritage from across the globe.This is achieved in Bangalore by hosting a series of Ustad Naseeruddin Saami’s concerts and workshops at various schools and colleges.Ustad Naseeruddin Saami is legendary Khayal vocalist from Pakistan. His ancestors founded the school of music known as the Delhi Gharana.His ancestor Miyan Samath had the privilege of being the disciple of Hazrat Ameer Khusro. He obtained training from his late uncle, the eminent Munshi Raziuddin.On the instruction of his mentor he furthered his training under the tutelage of the elders of the Delhi Gharana, namely Sardar Khan, Pyaray Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed Khan. Saami Sahib is an artiste who gives great importance to the historic traditions of his art.His style of singing is called Shudh Bani.He is a strict practitioner of his inherited musical philosophy- that of maintaining and believing in the purity of ‘sur’, which he displays most beautifully in his singing. He performs all the elements of classical music like khayal, thumri, sadra and kajri with versatility, which is distinctive of his gharana. Ustad Naseeruddin Saami was also conferred the Presidents’ Pride of Performance in 2007.Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth, (Spic Macay), is a nationwide voluntary and non-profit movement. It was started in 1977, by Padma Shri Dr Kiran Seth, an IIT professor. After its first concert in 1978 at IIT Delhi, it has now moved to 1000s of educational institutions spread over 200 towns in India and 50 towns overseas, with over 2500 events conducted yearly, reaching out to over a million youth.Spic Macay aims at introducing traditional Indian culture to the youth of this country with a hope that the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in it, dating back to antiquity, will become an integral part of their life, whatever may be their dreams and aspirations.The international arm of Spic Macay is SPWHAY (Society for Promotion of World Heritage Amongst Youth).
